The Bottomleys Guide to Men and Glasses – PART 1

PART 1

Why the first frame is really only the starting point

It’s something we see almost every day. A gentleman sits down for a styling appointment. We bring out a small selection of frames. He tries the first one on, looks in the mirror, gives a little nod and says, “That’ll do.” Very often, the first frame we present is actually a very strong contender. It’s been chosen carefully. The fit is good, the proportions work, and it suits the person sitting in front of us. But the styling process isn’t really about the first frame. It’s about the journey and the experience of knowing, in yourself, that you’re making the right choices. When we encourage someone to try two or three more options, the differences become clear. Sometimes they still choose the first frame. But now they know it’s the right one. And quite often, the conversation opens up into something else. We talk about how they actually use their eyes during the day. Varifocals or distance glasses for everyday life, an office pair for desk work, polarised sunglasses for driving and holidays, or simply another stylish option. Same prescription. Different look. Another useful piece in the wardrobe.
